Introduction

Level 1 floor tiling course will show you how to prepare subfloors all the way through to the installation of floor tiles. This course is aimed towards installers new to trade along with installers already skilled wanting to pick up tips and tricks.

Day 1 (9:30am - 5:00pm)

  • Subfloor identification to include-  Anhydrite / Calcium Sulphate, Concrete, Screed, Power float, Agilia Type A+C, Gyvlon, Quarry, Asphalt+ many more
  • How to set up and use diamond grinding equipment to prepare a range of subfloors
  • Moisture testing and how to resolve moisture issues
  • Primers explained, there uses, differences and where to use
  • Smoothing compounds explained and the differences between Latex, Acrylic, Water Based and Anhydrite smoothing compounds

  • Applying moisture suppressants to training area
  • Applying primers to training area
  • Applying smoothing compounds to training area

Day 2 (9:30am - 4:30pm)

  • UFH (Under Floor Heating) explained and different types
  • Embedding UFH matting in compounds
  • Tiles explained, types, uses and which type of tile to specify to suit the area they are to be installed
  • Set out for straight lay tiles to include grout line spacing
  • Tile adhesive explained, which adhesive to specify to suit internal and external areas

Lunch Break (supplied by FloorSkills)

  • Calculating adhesive quantity, mixing adhesives and application of adhesives
  • Installation of tiles (straight lay)
  • Questions & Answers

Day 3 (9:30am – 4:30pm)

  • Cutting tiles to include dry and wet cutting methods to basic obstacles

  • Backer boards, fracture mats explained and there uses to include installation

Day 4 (9:30am - 4:30pm)

  • Set out for diagonal lay to include border work and grout line spacing to include expansion strips
  • Installation of tiles (diagonal lay) to include border work

  • Installation of border tiles to include difficult cuts
  • Questions & Answers

Day 5 (9:30am- 3:30pm)

  • Installation of border tiles to include difficult cuts
  • Grouts differences explained
  • Mixing and application of different grouts
